Museum Opening Day May 24 1964
The Clark County Historical Society (CCHS) was established in 1917. The original charge of the organization was to assist in the preservation of historic sites (e.g., lobbying for the Fort Vancouver site to become a National Park Service Site, saving the Covington House and the Cedar Creek Grist Mill). During this time the CCHS began its collection of historical artifacts of significance to the people of Clark County. Since most small US museums did not get started and are based on collections not started until after World War II, the quality of CCHS collection is unusually high. The CCHS is the governing body for the Clark County Historical Museum (CCHM) which has operated museum programs in Vancouver’s 1909 Carnegie Library since 1964.
Membership to the CCHS is offered on an annual basis. Current society members receive free admission to the museum during regular hours as well as during First Thursday evenings. Members also receive discounted admission to special events, a 10% discount on museum merchandise, and a complimentary copy of the society’s Clark County History annual publication. At the annual membership meeting each member is eligible to vote on society business. (Student level members do not get to vote nor do they receive a complimentary copy of the Annual Publication.) Members are listed in the spring edition of our semi-annual newsletter. Here is a link to the Museum’s most recent newsletter.
To become a member, please print and fill out the membership form, enclose a check or money order or provide your credit card information in the space provided, and mail it to the museum.
